Glen Rose ISD Wins 2023 TAEA District of Distinction Award

Only the top 5.5 percent of districts in the state, including Glen Rose ISD, earned the honor this year. [Glen Rose, Texas] — [March 20, 2024] –
The Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) announced the 68 winners of the 2023 District of Distinction Award. Among the list of honorees is Glen Rose ISD. The districts received the honor for providing a well-rounded education that advocates and integrates visual arts curriculum to inspire creativity and build social emotional learning that connect learners to their community and beyond. TAEA is the leading advocate for the visual arts in the state. The organization has previously honored outstanding TAEA members for work in their classrooms and districts. This is the fifth year that TAEA is honoring districts that meet rigorous criteria as evidenced from data. For the 2023 award, over 1,200 districts were eligible to apply. Each district submitted documentation they met from the 14-point rubric over the 2021-2022 school year. Only 68 districts met the high standard and will receive the outstanding honor indicating they are in the top 5.5 percent in art education of districts in the state. “Glen Rose ISD has set a high standard for visual arts advocacy, integrated visual arts curriculum, encouraged creativity, community participation and student growth,” said Sandra Newton, Chair of the Visual Art Administrators of Texas, a division of TAEA, “It is a true testament to your visual art educators’ skill, dedication, and flexibility that the quality of their programs continued to provide strong and comprehensive visual art educational experiences to students.”  Sixty-eight districts, including Glen Rose ISD were honored at the TAEA Administration & Supervision Division meeting and General Session during the TAEA Fall Conference General Assembly on Friday, November 17, 2023. “Glen Rose ISD students are blessed to receive art education with quality educators, who are also all professional artists and industry leaders, from their first year in our elementary and intermediate schools,” said Laura Veno, Glen Rose High School art teacher, “As art becomes a choice in junior high electives, students who continue are additionally exposed to a community connection, serving not only their peers, but also members of the community, like Valentine canvases for the Glen Rose Nursing Home and painted dinosaurs for Performance Truck & Auto and Staples Custom Homes. At the high school level, students have even more opportunities through National Art Honor Society, and dedicate even more time to honing their skills in specialized classes and giving back to the community, including the mural at The Glynn, painted dinosaurs for Crave and GRHS, and Art Camp for all. They are also extremely competitive, bringing home over 60 awards, $6000 in prizes, and earning 15 industry certifications this year. A program of this caliber creates life-long artists who create, innovate, and give back to the places they live. We would like to thank our administrators and this community for all the support you show us. We are very proud of the opportunities you afford us, and of our students, past and present. We are always looking forward to the amazing lengths that this program will go.”
